Quantum & Woody #18

Quantum & Woody #18 was published in 1998 during the original run of the series by Acclaim Comics. This title was born out of the company's acquisition of the Valiant Universe, where writers Christopher Priest and artist MD Bright were tasked with redefining the superhero buddy-cop dynamic. The series gained a cult following for its meta-humor, irreverent tone, and the fractured, often dysfunctional relationship between its two titular protagonists.

The issue features cover art and interior work that reflects the creative experimentation of the late 90s indie comic scene. MD Bright’s design choices emphasized expressive character work and kinetic action sequences, moving away from the grim-and-gritty tropes prevalent in the broader comic industry at the time. While the series was frequently praised by critics for its wit and distinct voice, it remained a niche publication, ultimately serving as a foundational text for the character-driven, comedic approach to superhero storytelling that saw a resurgence in the 2010s.
