Red Sonja: She-Devil with a Sword #2

Red Sonja: She-Devil with a Sword #2 was published by Dynamite Entertainment in 2005 as part of a highly anticipated relaunch of the iconic character. Following a lengthy hiatus for the franchise, this series was designed to modernize the sword-and-sorcery icon while maintaining the pulp sensibilities established by Roy Thomas and Barry Windsor-Smith in the 1970s. The issue was written by Michael Avon Oeming and Mike Carey, with interior art by Mel Rubi, marking a concerted effort to ground Sonja in a darker, more cohesive fantasy world.

The design of this series drew heavily from the character's rich history, aiming to balance classic visual motifs with contemporary comic book storytelling techniques. The covers, which featured work by artists like John Cassaday, were instrumental in the project's reception, as they helped signal a sophisticated, premium direction for the character. The relaunch was widely praised for successfully reintroducing Red Sonja to a new generation of readers while honoring the gritty, independent spirit of her original appearances.
