Red Sonja: She-Devil with a Sword #3

Red Sonja: She-Devil with a Sword #3 was published in 2005 by Dynamite Entertainment, marking the company’s relaunch of the iconic character created by Roy Thomas and Barry Windsor-Smith. This series was designed to modernize the sword-and-sorcery aesthetic while remaining faithful to the grit and independence of the original Robert E. Howard-inspired archetype. The creative team, led by writer Michael Avon Oeming and artist Mel Rubi, aimed to balance high-fantasy action with a nuanced look at the character's survivalist motivations.

The issue features striking cover art by artists such as Greg Land and J. Scott Campbell, whose contributions were instrumental in defining the 'modern' visual era of the character. Their stylistic approach leaned into dynamic, illustrative anatomy that became a hallmark of the 2000s comic aesthetic. Upon release, the series was well-received for revitalizing interest in the She-Devil, successfully transitioning the character from a classic pulp staple into a central pillar of the Dynamite Entertainment library.
