Where it came from
Reign of the Zodiac #1 was published in 2003 as part of a standalone limited series from DC Comics. It emerged during a period of experimentation within the publisher's WildStorm imprint, which sought to revitalize classic archetypes by placing them in modern, often darker, sci-fi settings. This particular series was conceived to reimagine the traditional figures of the zodiac as powerful, celestial entities embroiled in a complex interplanetary power struggle.
The series was written by Jay Faerber with artwork provided by Pascal Alixe. The visual design aimed for a sleek, contemporary aesthetic that moved away from standard superhero tropes in favor of a more cinematic, space-opera feel. While the project garnered interest for its ambitious world-building and distinct departure from mainstream DC continuity, it was ultimately received as a niche entry that appealed primarily to fans of high-concept science fiction graphic novels.
