Rikki: Collected Edition #1

Rikki: Collected Edition #1 emerged from the late 1990s comics landscape as a spin-off from Grant Morrison’s run on the DC Comics series Animal Man. The character, Rikki Barnes, was originally introduced as a gender-swapped counterpart to Bucky Barnes within the pocket universe created by the villainous Monarch, reflecting a period of ambitious meta-fictional storytelling that defined much of the era's experimentation with legacy characters and parallel realities.

The collected edition sought to synthesize the narrative arc of this unique iteration of the character, highlighting the clean, modern aesthetic favored by the creative team of the time. While the character eventually saw a resurgence in mainstream continuity through Ed Brubaker’s later work, this initial collection remains a distinct artifact of the 1990s impulse to revisit and reimagine classic Silver Age tropes through a darker, more complex lens.
