Saint Seiya: Dark Wing #1

Saint Seiya: Dark Wing #1 is an official spin-off manga published by Akita Shoten, debuting in late 2020 within the Champion Red magazine. The series serves as an isekai-themed expansion of the original Saint Seiya universe created by Masami Kurumada. It follows the story of Shoichiro, a high school student who is transported to the underworld after a tragic accident, where he becomes a Specter of Hades, offering a departure from the traditional Saint-centric narrative.

The series is written by Kenji Saito and illustrated by Shinshu Ueda. Their design approach emphasizes the darker, gothic aesthetic associated with the Hades arc of the franchise, integrating familiar mythological motifs with contemporary fantasy tropes. Upon its release, it was received as a stylistic experiment that caters to fans of the long-running series who appreciate shifting perspectives, successfully maintaining the dramatic tone established in Kurumada’s foundational work.
