Saint Seiya: Dark Wing #2

Saint Seiya: Dark Wing #2 is part of a spin-off series within the long-running Saint Seiya franchise, created by Masami Kurumada. Written by Kenji Saito and illustrated by Shinshu Ueda, this manga series debuted in Champion Red magazine. The narrative takes the franchise in a darker, more contemporary direction, focusing on the concept of reincarnation and the specters of Hades, moving away from the traditional Sanctuary-based storylines to explore modern psychological themes through the lens of classic Greek mythology.

The design of this series reflects a stylistic bridge between classic shonen action and modern gothic aesthetics. Shinshu Ueda’s art style prioritizes fluid, dramatic character movements and intricate armor designs that honor the original 1980s source material while adopting a sharper, more refined aesthetic suited to current manga trends. Upon its release, the series was received by the fanbase as a bold experiment that successfully expanded the franchise's lore, gaining traction for its willingness to blend familiar mythological motifs with a more melancholic, character-driven tone.
