Where it came from
Secret Origins #33 was published by DC Comics in December 1988 as part of an anthology series dedicated to exploring the histories of iconic comic book characters. This specific issue is notable for focusing on the origin stories of the original members of the Justice League of America, framed within the post-Crisis on Infinite Earths continuity. It serves as a bridge for readers to understand the revised backstories that defined the DC Universe during the late 1980s.
The issue features work by a collaborative team of writers and artists, including Mark Waid, who provided scripts that sought to reconcile disparate golden and silver age histories into a cohesive narrative. The design philosophy of the series focused on classic storytelling tropes, utilizing a mix of retrospective character development and iconic illustrative styles to provide definitive accounts for fans. It was generally well-received for its archival value, effectively serving as an accessible entry point for new readers during a period of significant editorial transition.
