Secret Origins #34

Secret Origins #34 was published by DC Comics in 1989, a period during which the publisher utilized the anthology series to re-examine and modernize the backstories of its established roster of characters. This specific issue is notable for featuring the origin story of the Elongated Man, Ralph Dibny, alongside a secondary feature focusing on the Metal Men. The editorial strategy at the time sought to reconcile classic Silver Age origins with the grittier, more psychological tone that had become prevalent in the industry following the mid-1980s.

The issue was illustrated by artists such as Joe Staton, who provided the cover art, bringing his recognizable style to the character's long-standing history. The narrative for the main feature was written by Gerard Jones, who aimed to solidify Dibny's place within the post-Crisis on Infinite Earths DC Universe. While the title was generally well-regarded by collectors for its role as a narrative repository, it served primarily as a bridge for readers to understand character evolutions during a transitional era for the publisher.
