Where it came from
Secrets of Haunted House #15, published by DC Comics in 1978, emerged during a peak era for the publisher's horror anthologies. Part of a long-running series that succeeded the earlier House of Secrets and House of Mystery titles, this issue fits within a tradition of Gothic storytelling characterized by twist-ending tales and atmospheric, suspense-driven narratives designed to capitalize on the enduring popularity of paranormal comics among readers of the late 1970s.
The art and design of the issue reflect the house style of DC's mystery imprint, which prioritized moody, illustrative covers and self-contained short stories often featuring recurring supernatural hosts. These anthologies were crafted by a rotating stable of talented writers and artists who focused on psychological tension and eerie visuals rather than continuous serialization, a format that allowed for creative experimentation that was well-received by fans of classic horror-mystery comics.
