Secrets of Haunted House #18

Secrets of Haunted House was a long-running horror anthology series published by DC Comics during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Issue number 18, released in 1979, fits firmly into the period when the Bronze Age of comics was revitalizing classic gothic tropes. The series was designed to compete with the popular, atmospheric horror comics of the era, relying on a rotating cast of spooky narrators and ironic, twist-ending stories that captured the pulpy, eerie aesthetic common to DC's darker imprints.

The visual design of these issues relied on the house-style of DC's roster of freelance artists and writers who specialized in supernatural thrillers. The work in issue 18 showcases the detailed, ink-heavy panels characteristic of the genre, intended to create a sense of dread while remaining accessible to a mainstream audience. Like many anthology titles of its time, it functioned as a showcase for both established talent and newer contributors, gaining a legacy today primarily through its reputation as a quintessential example of late-seventies comic book horror.
