Senpai is an Otokonoko: My Crossdressing Classmate #1

Senpai is an Otokonoko: My Crossdressing Classmate originated as a digital manga series serialized on the Line Manga platform starting in 2019. Created by the artist known as Pom, the work was conceived to explore themes of gender identity, self-expression, and the complexities of high school romance through the perspective of Makoto Hanaoka, a student who identifies as a male but enjoys wearing feminine clothing. The series gained significant traction for its empathetic portrayal of its characters, eventually leading to its compilation into physical tankōbon volumes.

The physical publication of the first volume brings Pom's clean, expressive digital art style to print, maintaining the gentle tone that defined the web serialization. The design emphasizes character-focused storytelling, allowing the nuances of Makoto's interactions with his classmates to take center stage. Upon its release, the series was well-received for navigating delicate social themes with sincerity, eventually earning a nomination for the prestigious 46th Kodansha Manga Awards and being adapted into an animated project.
