Sennen Kitsune: Kanpō 「Sōjinki」 Yori #13

Sennen Kitsune: Kanpō 「Sōjinki」 Yori, or 'A Thousand Year Fox: From the Kanpō Era Sōjinki', emerged as a niche serial publication exploring the intersection of Japanese folklore and the medical histories preserved in the Sōjinki manuscripts. Issue #13 was produced to serve as a bridge between the serialized mythological narratives and the specific botanical studies popularized during the Kanpō era of the Edo period. It reflects the meticulous woodblock-printing traditions of the time, emphasizing a scholarly approach to the kitsune legend rather than purely folkloric storytelling.

The editorial team sought to standardize the visual representation of these spirits by integrating authentic herbalism illustrations with traditional character design. The issue was received by its contemporary audience as an essential manual for those interested in both local history and the occult. While it occupies a specialized corner of the historical literary market, the work remains respected for its commitment to the aesthetic standards of 18th-century print culture and its preservation of rare Edo-era manuscripts.
