Sennen Kitsune: Kanpō 「Sōjinki」 Yori #12

Sennen Kitsune: Kanpō 「Sōjinki」 Yori represents a niche entry within the broader landscape of Japanese independent manga and folklore-inspired anthologies. The series emerged from a desire to modernize classical kitsune mythology by blending it with the aesthetic traditions of Edo-period woodblock prints and early twentieth-century brush-and-ink illustration. The narrative focus on the Sōjinki, or road-gods, serves as a thematic anchor, exploring spirits that guard the boundaries between the mundane and the supernatural.

The design of issue #12 follows the series' established visual language, characterized by high-contrast linework and a muted, earthy color palette intended to evoke the textures of historical scrolls. While the creative team behind the series generally maintains a low public profile, the work is often noted by critics for its deliberate pacing and its commitment to traditional Japanese storytelling motifs. It has found a dedicated, albeit specialized, readership among enthusiasts of folklore-centric sequential art who value the series for its ethnographic approach to character design.
