Sergio Aragonés Groo the Wanderer #90

Groo the Wanderer, created by cartoonist Sergio Aragonés and writer Mark Evanier, first debuted in the early 1980s as a satirical take on sword-and-sorcery tropes. Issue number 90 was published during the series' long-running tenure at Marvel Comics under their Epic imprint, which provided a home for creator-owned projects. By the time this issue arrived, the character had already established a cult following for his bumbling, destructive nature and the whimsical, detailed art style that became Aragonés's signature.

The design of the issue adheres to the established visual language of the series, featuring Aragonés's expressive, wordless-style character acting paired with Evanier's sharp, cynical dialogue. At this stage in the series, the creative team was deeply entrenched in a rhythm of subverting classic fantasy archetypes. The issue was received by fans as a reliable continuation of the comedic tone that defined the title's multi-decade success and its status as one of the most enduring independent comics in the industry.
