Sheryl Locke-Holmes #1

Sheryl Locke-Holmes #1 debuted in the early 2010s as part of an independent comic book series that sought to modernize the detective genre through a gender-swapped reimagining of Arthur Conan Doyle’s iconic characters. The series was created and written by Eric Esquivel, aiming to place a brilliant female protagonist in the role of the master detective, navigating a blend of classic mystery tropes and contemporary storytelling sensibilities.

The visual identity of the issue was shaped by various artists associated with the series, who worked to establish a distinct, neo-noir aesthetic that bridged the gap between Victorian gothic atmosphere and modern graphic novel pacing. While the title occupies a niche space in the landscape of small-press comics, it serves as a noteworthy example of the enduring cultural fascination with reimagining established literary archetypes for new audiences.
