Shite no Hana: Nōgakushi Haga Kotarō no Sakikata #5

Shite no Hana: Nōgakushi Haga Kotarō no Sakikata is a seinen manga series written and illustrated by Yūji Moritaka. Serialized in the mid-2010s, the work explores the intricate, disciplined world of Noh theater through the eyes of Kotarō Haga, a young performer navigating the traditional hierarchies and artistic demands of the craft. The series is noted for its meticulous research and quiet, atmospheric pacing, which seeks to translate the slow, deliberate movements of the Noh stage into the medium of sequential art.

The fifth volume continues the narrative arc of the protagonist as he deepens his understanding of 'shite'—the lead performer in a Noh play—and the psychological weight of the masks involved. In crafting this series, Moritaka collaborated with experts in traditional Japanese performing arts to ensure the authenticity of the staging and the historical context of the training regimens depicted. The series has been received as a niche but highly regarded educational drama, praised for bringing a sense of cultural preservation to a modern manga readership.
