Where it came from
The Sigurd Geburtstags-Edition series was produced to celebrate the legacy of Sigurd, the iconic German comic book hero originally created by Hansrudi Wäscher in 1953. Published by Norbert Hethke Verlag, this special edition series served as a nostalgic tribute to the character, who defined the 'Lehning' era of German comics. It aimed to provide long-time enthusiasts with high-quality reprints and additional historical context regarding Wäscher’s influential contribution to the post-war German publishing landscape.
The design of these anniversary editions reflects the distinct aesthetic of Wäscher’s original work, characterized by dynamic black-and-white ink drawings and a classic adventure-serial format. The series was met with significant warmth by the established German fan community, who viewed the volumes as essential archival material. By maintaining the integrity of the original layouts and storytelling techniques, the edition succeeded in honoring Wäscher’s role as the pioneer of the German adventure comic strip.
