Somali and the Forest Spirit #5

Somali and the Forest Spirit, authored and illustrated by Yako Gureishi, began serialization in the online magazine Web Comic Zenyon in 2015. The series is set in a world populated by strange, non-human creatures where humanity has been driven to the brink of extinction. Issue number five serves as a mid-series installment, continuing the poignant journey of a young human girl named Somali and her guardian, a stoic golem known as the Forest Spirit, as they search for the girl's kin in a beautifully realized, often melancholic fantasy landscape.

Gureishi's art style is noted for its intricate world-building, which blends whimsical character designs with a slightly ominous atmosphere. The series received significant critical attention for its exploration of themes like parenthood, displacement, and the bond between species, eventually leading to a television anime adaptation. The fifth volume maintains the series' characteristic visual detail, prioritizing atmospheric storytelling over rapid pacing and capturing a sense of profound longing that resonates with its audience.
