Where it came from
Sonic the Hedgehog #123 was published by Archie Comics in July 2003 as part of their long-running series based on the Sega video game franchise. This issue arrived during a transitional period for the title, occurring shortly after the conclusion of the major 'World Tour' arc and the departure of long-time writer Ken Penders, reflecting the editorial shift toward a tone more closely aligned with the contemporary Sonic Adventure game series.
The issue features cover art and interior work consistent with the Archie house style of the era, which prioritized colorful, high-energy layouts to appeal to a younger demographic of gamers. While this specific issue is generally regarded as a standard installment of the ongoing monthly narrative, it remains a notable piece for completist collectors tracking the evolution of the Archie Sonic continuity and its complex multiversal storytelling.
