Sonic the Hedgehog #131

Sonic the Hedgehog #131 was published by Archie Comics in January 2004 as part of a long-running series based on the popular Sega video game franchise. This era of the comic was characterized by ongoing narrative experimentation, often bridging the gap between the game's established lore and the unique, often darker, canon developed by Archie's writers. It represents a period where the series focused on complex, serialized storytelling arcs that expanded significantly on the personalities of Sonic and his supporting cast.

The issue features the artistic contributions of long-time series illustrator Ron Lim, who brought a dynamic, action-oriented style to the pages. The visual direction during this phase of the series was intended to balance the whimsical nature of the source material with the more serious, high-stakes military and political plots that defined the Archie run. Readers at the time responded to these issues as a core component of a rapidly evolving Sonic universe that was attempting to appeal to an aging readership.
