Sonic the Hedgehog #118

Sonic the Hedgehog #118 was published by Archie Comics in early 2003 as part of their long-running series based on the Sega video game franchise. During this period, the series was navigating the aftermath of the ambitious 'World Tour' arc and shifting toward smaller, character-focused stories that leaned into the established lore of the Sonic universe. This era of the comic is noted for its transition in creative personnel and its attempt to balance the tone of the games with the expanded narrative framework built over the preceding decade.

The issue features artwork reflective of the house style maintained by Archie's editorial team during the early 2000s, often characterized by a blend of action-oriented comic layouts and the distinct character designs introduced by earlier writers and artists like Ken Penders and Patrick Spaziante. At the time of its release, the comic served as a staple for a dedicated fanbase that had grown attached to the unique continuity Archie developed for the characters, which often diverged significantly from the source material to provide deeper character backstories and complex political dynamics within the world of Mobius.
