Where it came from
Published by Archie Comics in May 2003, Sonic the Hedgehog #122 belongs to the long-running series based on the Sega video game franchise. This issue is notable for its role in the 'Endgame' aftermath and the ongoing development of the complex, serialized lore created for the comic, which often diverged significantly from the game canon to accommodate darker, character-driven narratives.
The issue features artwork characteristic of the Archie era, balancing the high-energy action of the games with the more emotive, soap-opera-style storytelling favored by the editorial team at the time. Written during a period of transition for the series, the comic aimed to maintain interest among a core readership invested in the expansive cast of Freedom Fighters, further solidifying the 'SatAM' animated series influence that defined the comic's aesthetic.
