Where it came from
Strikeforce Morituri: Electric Undertow was a limited series published by Marvel Comics in 1989, serving as a spin-off to the original Strikeforce Morituri run created by Peter B. Gillis and Brent Anderson. Set in a future where Earth is defended by soldiers who are granted superpowers at the cost of their impending, inevitable deaths, this miniseries continued the grim exploration of sacrifice and mortality that defined the franchise’s unique premise in the late 1980s.
The third issue of this arc maintained the series' established aesthetic of visceral, high-stakes science fiction, featuring writing by Gillis and interior art by Leonard Manco. As part of the Epic Comics imprint, the series was designed to target an older readership with its darker thematic elements, reflecting a shift toward more mature, cynical storytelling within the comic industry during that era.
