Strikeforce Morituri: Electric Undertow #2

Strikeforce Morituri: Electric Undertow was a 1989 limited series published by Marvel Comics, serving as a spin-off to the original Strikeforce Morituri concept created by Peter B. Gillis and Brent Anderson. The parent series, launched in 1986, explored a dystopian future where humanity gained superpowers to combat an alien invasion, with the tragic caveat that the process would inevitably kill the recipient within a year. Electric Undertow expanded this premise by focusing on a new roster of characters dealing with the societal and psychological fallout of the ongoing interstellar war.

This specific issue continued the narrative established by writer Jerry Prosser and artist Bill Reinhold. Reinhold’s illustrative style, known for its gritty, cinematic quality, matched the dark and fatalistic tone of the Morituri mythos. While the series was praised for its unique hook and subversion of standard superhero tropes, the franchise eventually struggled to maintain the momentum of the original run, leading to its status as a notable but niche experiment in late-1980s mature-leaning superhero storytelling.
