Strikeforce Morituri: Electric Undertow #1

Strikeforce Morituri: Electric Undertow #1, published in 1989, serves as a sequel to the original Marvel series Strikeforce Morituri, which was created by writer Peter B. Gillis and artist Brent Anderson in 1986. The concept revolved around a near-future Earth where volunteers were granted superhuman powers to fight an alien invasion, with the caveat that the transformation process would inevitably result in their deaths within a year. This narrative device forced the characters to confront the existential weight of their mortality while participating in a desperate war effort.

Electric Undertow continued the thematic exploration of terminal heroism established in the original run. While the original series was noted for its subversion of traditional superhero tropes, the Electric Undertow miniseries sought to expand the scope of the Morituri program. The production design maintained the grit characteristic of late-1980s Marvel experimentation, aiming to balance character-driven drama with the sci-fi spectacle that defined the imprint during that era.
