Where it came from
Published in May 1961, Superman #145 arrived during the Silver Age of comic books, a period characterized by imaginative, often surreal storytelling under the guidance of editor Mort Weisinger. This issue features two distinct stories: 'The Superman Super-Show' and 'The Girl in Superman's Past,' the latter of which is notable for introducing Lyla Lerrol, a major figure in Kryptonian history who briefly offered Superman a glimpse of the life he might have lived on his home planet.
The cover and interior art were primarily crafted by Curt Swan, whose clean, definitive style defined the Superman aesthetic for decades, working alongside writers like Jerry Siegel. The issue reflects the editorial shift toward deepening the emotional stakes for the character, moving away from purely physical threats to explore his loneliness and the melancholic reality of his status as the last survivor of Krypton.
