Superman by Kurt Busiek #2

This issue is part of a mid-2000s revival of the Superman mythos, written by Kurt Busiek as part of a larger creative effort to revitalize the character's core narrative after the 'Infinite Crisis' event. Published by DC Comics in 2006, the series was designed to ground Superman in a more modern, relatable context while paying homage to the Silver Age sensibilities that defined the character’s history. It served as a bridge between high-stakes cosmic storytelling and the intimate, grounded life of Clark Kent in Metropolis.

The art and editorial direction for this period were heavily influenced by the goal of balancing internal character introspection with the demands of an ongoing monthly superhero serial. Busiek, a writer celebrated for his deep historical knowledge of comic lore, aimed to weave classic continuity with fresh stakes. The reception among fans and critics was generally positive, noted particularly for its focus on Superman’s humanity and the meticulous world-building that characterized Busiek's tenure on the title.
