Superman & Bugs Bunny #1

Superman & Bugs Bunny #1 was published in 2000 as the first part of a landmark crossover miniseries between DC Comics and Warner Bros. feature animation properties. Produced during an era of increased collaboration between the two companies following their corporate merger, the project sought to bridge the tonal gap between the mythic weight of the DC Universe and the zany, anarchic energy of the Looney Tunes. The creative team aimed to satisfy long-standing fan curiosity about how these disparate worlds would collide, utilizing a premise that forced the two characters to confront their differing realities.

The issue was written by Mark Evanier, a veteran writer known for his deep understanding of animation history and the Looney Tunes legacy, and illustrated by Joe Staton, whose clean, classic style provided a stable visual anchor for the improbable pairing. The creative approach focused on meta-humor and character-driven gags, avoiding a strictly serious tone in favor of a lighthearted tribute to the two franchises. Upon release, it was well-received by fans and collectors as a fun, nostalgic experiment that effectively navigated the logistical challenges of blending two distinct artistic sensibilities.
