The Amazing Spider-Man #184

The Amazing Spider-Man #184 was published in September 1978 during a period of transition for Marvel's flagship title. Written by Marv Wolfman with artwork by Ross Andru and Mike Esposito, the issue features a narrative centered on the conflict between Spider-Man and the villainous Big Wheel, a character created by Len Wein and Ross Andru. This era of the series is noted for maintaining the classic character dynamics established during the 1970s while navigating the shift toward more grounded, urban storytelling.

The cover art, illustrated by Dave Cockrum, depicts Spider-Man caught in a high-stakes confrontation, reflecting the dramatic tension common to late Bronze Age superhero comics. As part of a long-running series, issue #184 is valued by collectors not necessarily for introducing a major legacy character, but for its role in the continuous, evolving chronicle of Peter Parker’s life, demonstrating the consistent production standards of Marvel’s creative team during the late 1970s.
