The Books of Magic #14

The Books of Magic series was launched by DC Comics' Vertigo imprint in 1994, following the success of Neil Gaiman's 1990 miniseries of the same name. Issue number 14, released in 1995, continues the journey of Timothy Hunter, a young boy destined to become the world's most powerful magician. This era of the series was defined by writer John Ney Rieber, who explored the darker, more psychological implications of Tim's exposure to the hidden world of myth and magic.

The artwork for this period was primarily handled by Peter Gross, whose stylized and atmospheric approach helped solidify the visual identity of the Vertigo line. The series was well-regarded for its sophisticated narrative tone, positioning itself as a cornerstone of the 'mature readers' comic movement of the mid-1990s. By focusing on the intersection of mundane teenage life and cosmic arcane forces, the creative team aimed to maintain the intellectual depth established by Gaiman while developing a distinct, long-form mythological arc.
