Where it came from
Published in 1998 as part of the ongoing Vertigo imprint series, The Books of Magic #48 serves as a chapter in the mature-readers expansion of Neil Gaiman’s original four-issue miniseries. The series follows the journey of Timothy Hunter, a young boy destined to become the world's most powerful magician, as he navigates the complex and often dangerous intersection of mundane life and the occult realms of the DC Universe.
This issue features the work of writer Peter Gross and artist Dean Ormston. The creative team aimed to maintain the series' established tone of ethereal fantasy and philosophical inquiry, focusing on the development of Timothy's character as he faces the burdens of his potential legacy. The series was generally well-received by fans of the dark fantasy genre for its departure from traditional superhero conventions, prioritizing atmospheric storytelling and intricate world-building.
