Where it came from
The Fury of Firestorm #2, published in 1982, arrived during a period of creative transition for the Nuclear Man. Following the conclusion of his initial series in 1979, the character was revitalized in the early 1980s by writer Gerry Conway, who aimed to solidify Firestorm's place in the DC Universe by grounding his dual-identity dynamics within a more suburban, high-school-centered framework.
The art in this issue reflects the collaborative effort between artist Pat Broderick and writer Gerry Conway. They sought to balance the high-stakes cosmic threats typical of the genre with the personal anxieties of Ronnie Raymond and Professor Martin Stein. Upon release, this era of the series was noted for its success in character development, helping to elevate Firestorm from a niche experiment into a staple of the DC roster throughout the decade.
