The Fury of Firestorm #20

The Fury of Firestorm #20, published in February 1984, arrived during a pivotal era for the character under the stewardship of writer Gerry Conway. By this point in the series, the book had moved past its initial origins to explore the complex, dual-natured life of Ronnie Raymond and Professor Martin Stein, focusing heavily on the social and personal toll of their shared existence. This particular issue remains notable for its mid-eighties aesthetic and its role in cementing the character's status as a staple of the DC Comics lineup during the Bronze Age.

The cover and interior art from this period reflect the house style of DC Comics in the mid-1980s, emphasizing dynamic action and the dramatic irony inherent in the Firestorm persona. The creative team consistently aimed to balance high-stakes superhero antics with the grounded, relatable struggles of a high school student, a thematic hallmark of Conway's tenure. While not a landmark issue in terms of major character changes, it is frequently cited by collectors for its contribution to the consistent world-building that kept the series in publication for several years.
