The Fury of Firestorm #40

The Fury of Firestorm #40 was published by DC Comics in October 1985 during a pivotal period for the character. By the mid-1980s, Firestorm had transitioned from a localized hero to a key player in the DC Universe, and this issue arrived during the series' steady run under the creative guidance of writer Gerry Conway. The narrative focused on the complexities of the dual-identity hero, balancing the intellectual and physical chemistry between Ronnie Raymond and Professor Martin Stein as they navigated the heightened stakes of the era's superhero storytelling.

The issue features cover and interior artwork emblematic of the mid-80s house style at DC, prioritizing dynamic action and clear narrative progression. This era of the series is often noted for its attempts to ground the cosmic power of a nuclear-based hero in relatable interpersonal conflict. While not as widely cited as the book's initial launch or its later relaunches, the issue remains a sought-after piece for collectors focusing on the complete 1980s run, serving as a functional bridge in the ongoing character development that defined Conway's lengthy tenure on the title.
