The Fury of Firestorm #37

The Fury of Firestorm #37, published in July 1985, arrived during a transformative period for DC Comics as the publisher navigated the transition toward the landmark Crisis on Infinite Earths event. This issue features the character Firestorm as he grapples with the global consequences of the Multiverse-shattering conflict, reflecting the serious tone shifts mandated by editorial oversight at the time to align various standalone titles with the company-wide continuity reset.

The creative team for this era, including writer Gerry Conway and artist Rafael Kayanan, sought to deepen the character's internal struggle regarding his dual-identity fusion. Kayanan’s illustrative style, which leans into the dynamic and often chaotic action prevalent in mid-eighties superhero comics, served to visually emphasize the unstable nature of the protagonist’s powers as he faced increasingly complex threats during this transitional phase of the series.
