The Great Yokai War: Guardians #2

The Great Yokai War: Guardians, known in Japan as Yokai Daisenso: Guardians, represents the 2021 entry in the long-running film franchise originally launched in the 1960s. This specific comic book issue serves as a supplemental tie-in, designed to expand upon the cinematic narrative that reimagines classic Japanese folklore entities—the yokai—within a contemporary adventure setting. It was produced to capitalize on the film's release, aiming to bridge the gap between traditional yokai mythology and modern shonen-style storytelling.

The design and illustration of this tie-in material emphasize a visual aesthetic consistent with modern manga sensibilities, prioritizing dynamic action sequences and expressive character portraits. Created under the oversight of the film's production committee, the issue was intended to introduce younger audiences to the rich history of yokai lore while maintaining the high-energy tone of the movie. While primarily a promotional companion piece, it is appreciated by fans of the franchise for its specific artistic interpretations of traditional Japanese monsters.
