The Incredible Hulk #108

Published in October 1968, The Incredible Hulk #108 serves as a pivotal installment in the character's transition from the anthology-style Tales to Astonish series back to his own dedicated title. This issue continues the creative momentum established by Roy Thomas, who was instrumental in refining the Hulk’s internal psychology and the cosmic scope of his adventures during this era. It arrived at a time when Marvel Comics was solidifying its status as a cultural phenomenon, focusing heavily on the intersection of human tragedy and superpower.

The artwork for this period features the iconic contributions of Herb Trimpe, whose gritty, muscular style helped define the visual language of the Hulk for over a decade. Trimpe’s depiction of the character favored a hulking, grounded physicality that complemented the dramatic, often mournful narrative tone favored by the writers. While the issue functioned as a standard monthly release within a sprawling shared universe, it remains a notable example of the mid-Silver Age transition, appreciated by enthusiasts for its quintessential mid-century aesthetic and the evolution of the Marvel house style.
