The Incredible Hulk #166

Published by Marvel Comics in August 1973, The Incredible Hulk issue 166 stands as a key installment in the mid-1970s run of the series. This era of the character's publication history is defined by the narrative guidance of writer Steve Englehart and the editorial direction of Roy Thomas, reflecting the shifting tone of Bronze Age comics as they began to incorporate more complex character psychology alongside traditional superhero tropes.

The interior artwork for this issue was provided by Herb Trimpe, a quintessential Hulk artist whose definitive visual style shaped the monster's iconic look during this decade. Trimpe’s approach prioritized a sense of raw, kinetic power, emphasizing the internal conflict of Bruce Banner through the stark, hulking physicality of his alter ego. The cover, featuring an intense confrontation, was designed to emphasize the high-stakes action that had become a hallmark of the title during the period.
