Where it came from
Published by Marvel Comics in October 1974, The Incredible Hulk #180 serves as a significant milestone in comic book history as it marks the first appearance of Wolverine. The story, written by Len Wein with art by Herb Trimpe, was conceived to introduce a Canadian operative sent to stop a clash between the Hulk and the Wendigo, setting the stage for an expansion of the Marvel Universe's international hero roster.
The character design for Wolverine, featuring his iconic yellow and blue suit, was developed by John Romita Sr. alongside Len Wein, drawing inspiration from the wolverine animal to emphasize the character's ferocious and agile nature. While the character was initially intended to be a minor antagonist, the positive response from editorial staff and readers led to his integration into the X-Men franchise, where he eventually became one of the most recognizable figures in modern pop culture.
