The Incredible Hulk Annual #17

The Incredible Hulk Annual #17 was published by Marvel Comics in 1991 as part of an era defined by the 'Kings of Pain' crossover event. This multi-part storyline spanned the annuals of several major titles, including X-Factor, New Mutants, and Wolverine, weaving a narrative centered on the villainous Proteus and a conflict involving the island nation of Muir Island. It serves as a specific touchstone for readers interested in the editorial connectivity that defined Marvel’s output during the early nineties.

The interior art and writing reflect the collaborative nature of the crossover, featuring contributions from creators such as Fabian Nicieza and Ron Lim. The issue was designed to integrate the Hulk into the broader X-Men-related cosmic struggle, utilizing the aesthetic sensibilities prevalent at the time, characterized by dynamic action sequences and complex continuity. While it remains a standard piece of the Marvel annual catalog, its inclusion in the 'Kings of Pain' arc ensures its place in the history of Marvel’s ambitious, line-wide storytelling experiments.
