The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen #6

Published in 2000 as the conclusion to the first volume of Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neill's seminal work, this issue brought a definitive end to the Victorian-era literary mashup. The series was created under the America's Best Comics imprint for DC, envisioned as a high-concept deconstruction of adventure fiction that reimagined classic characters like Allan Quatermain and Mina Harker as a clandestine team working for British Intelligence.

Kevin O'Neill's visual style, characterized by dense, intricate line work and a meticulous approach to period-accurate detail, was essential in grounding the fantastical premise within a grit-filled, historical setting. The final issue was particularly noted for its ambitious scale and the way it subverted the tropes of the 19th-century adventure novel, earning widespread critical acclaim for its narrative complexity and serving as a foundational text in the modern literary comics movement.
