Where it came from
The New Titans #62, published in February 1990, serves as a pivotal installment in the 'A Lonely Place of Dying' storyline. Written by Marv Wolfman with art by George Pérez and Jim Aparo, this issue captures a transition period for the team as they navigate the fallout from the Death in the Family event. The narrative focuses on the integration of Tim Drake as the new Robin, a significant shift that required balancing the legacy of Dick Grayson with the emerging identity of a new partner for Batman.
The design of the issue reflects the sophisticated, character-driven house style that Pérez and Wolfman cultivated during their long tenure on the series. By integrating the darker, urban grit of the Gotham-centric crossover with the interpersonal dynamics of the Titans, the creative team aimed to maintain the title's relevance within the broader DC Universe. The issue was received as a milestone in comic book history, credited with effectively revitalizing the Robin mantle for a new generation of readers.
