The Vision and the Scarlet Witch #1

The Vision and the Scarlet Witch #1, published in November 1982, serves as the debut of the couple's first dedicated limited series. Following their marriage in the pages of Giant-Size Avengers, the series was conceived to explore the domestic life of the pair in a suburban setting, a notable departure from the typical high-stakes superhero narrative of the era. The story was written by Bill Mantlo and illustrated by Rick Leonardi, who leaned into a grounded, slightly surreal tone to reflect the unconventional nature of their partnership.

The creative direction sought to humanize these characters by placing them in the mundane environment of Leonia, New Jersey, while maintaining the underlying tension of their disparate origins. The issue was received as a fascinating experiment in long-form character development, marking an important milestone in Marvel's efforts to expand the backstories of secondary Avengers members during the early 1980s.
