Where it came from
Published in September 1986, this final issue of the limited series was written by Steve Englehart with artwork by Richard Howell. It serves as a pivotal moment in Marvel Comics history, centering on the wedding of the Vision and the Scarlet Witch and the subsequent, unconventional birth of their twin sons, Thomas and William. The narrative sought to ground high-concept superhero tropes in domestic drama, exploring themes of family, identity, and the challenges of a non-traditional union.
The issue is widely recognized for its experimental approach to character development and its lasting impact on the continuity of the Marvel Universe. Richard Howell's pencils provided a warm, grounded aesthetic that complemented Englehart’s focus on the emotional stakes of the couple’s life in Leonia, New Jersey. While initially received as a niche character study, it has since become a foundational text for understanding the complex lineage of the Avengers and the psychological evolution of Wanda Maximoff.
