Where it came from
Published by Marvel Comics in 1986, this issue is a pivotal installment in the limited series written by Steve Englehart and illustrated by Richard Howell. It emerged from a period in Marvel history where writers were focused on grounding fantastical characters in domestic situations, specifically exploring the unconventional marriage between a synthetic android and a mutant reality-warper.
The issue is most famously remembered for depicting the unconventional birth of the couple's twin sons, Billy and Tommy, through Wanda Maximoff's use of magic. The narrative was designed to challenge traditional comic book family tropes, and while it was initially treated as a standard genre release, it became a cornerstone of Marvel lore, setting the stage for decades of complex storylines involving the Scarlet Witch's psyche and the reality-bending nature of her children.
