The Vision & The Scarlet Witch: Fear the Reaper #1

The Vision and the Scarlet Witch, published in 1982, emerged during a period when Marvel Comics sought to explore the domestic lives of its established superheroes. As the inaugural issue of a four-part limited series, it was crafted to delve into the unconventional romance between the android Vision and the mutant Wanda Maximoff. This narrative arc was designed to move beyond traditional action-oriented storytelling, focusing instead on the complexities of their marriage and the supernatural challenges they faced while attempting to live a quiet life in New Jersey.

The creative direction for this series was spearheaded by writer Bill Mantlo and artist Rick Leonardi. The team aimed to provide a grounded, albeit fantastic, look at character-driven conflict, placing the pair in a domestic setting that highlighted their outsider status. The series is often remembered for its efforts to expand the couple's lore and was generally received as a pivotal expansion of the wider Marvel Universe, setting the stage for subsequent explorations of their family dynamics and the reality-warping history of the Scarlet Witch.
