Uesugi-kun wa Onnanoko wo Yametai #1

Uesugi-kun wa Onnanoko wo Yametai, authored by the artist known as Piyo, debuted in the mid-2010s within the landscape of Japanese web manga and seinen magazines. The story centers on a young man who finds himself trapped in a feminine appearance, exploring themes of gender expression and social expectations through a comedic lens. The title serves as a commentary on the trope of gender-bending in media, specifically focusing on the protagonist's desire to reclaim a traditional masculine identity against the constraints of his circumstances.

The character design and art style are characteristic of contemporary character-driven manga, prioritizing expressive facial features and clear, clean line work that contrasts with the internal dilemmas of the lead character. Upon its release, the volume was received as a nuanced addition to the genre, praised by readers for balancing its humorous premise with a sincere look at the character's internal identity crisis. It remains a notable example of modern Japanese light-hearted but introspective character studies.
