Uesugi-kun Wants to Quit Being a Girl #1

Uesugi-kun Wants to Quit Being a Girl, or Uesugi-kun wa Onnanoko o Yametai, originated as a manga series written and illustrated by mangaka Kyuugou. The series emerged within the landscape of Japanese seinen and comedy manga, specifically focusing on themes of gender presentation and social dynamics. It was published in serialization before being compiled into tankobon volumes, with the first volume introducing the central premise of a protagonist whose daily life is complicated by their appearance and the perceptions of those around them.

Kyuugou designed the series with a focus on character-driven humor and visual tropes common to the genre, aiming to balance lighthearted comedy with the protagonist's internal struggle to shift his social image. Upon its release, the work was received as a niche but distinct entry in the comedy manga sphere, recognized for the artist's expressive character designs and the specific, idiosyncratic nature of the title character's quest. It remains a notable example of the creative efforts to blend slapstick elements with character-focused storytelling.
