Where it came from
Released in 2024 by Image Comics, this black-and-white special was part of a larger project celebrating the legacy of the 1954 classic film. It serves as a modern homage to the Gill-man, inviting creators to explore the creature's mythos through a distinct, monochromatic aesthetic that leans into the mood and lighting of original mid-century monster cinema.
The issue features contributions from various writers and artists who sought to capture the dread and wonder of the Black Lagoon through contemporary visual storytelling. By stripping away color, the creative team focused on high-contrast ink work to evoke the shadows and suspense central to the character's identity, garnering appreciation from fans of both traditional horror comics and Universal’s cinematic history.
